Internacional Seminar on "The Secular State and Religious Freedom”

Purpose: To deepen the sense of secularity of the State over the religious factor as a component of the human dimension, in order to provide elements for understanding the legal issues involving the relationship between Church and State, both as regards to the legal consequences of separation between them, as well as in relation to the forms and limits of mutual cooperation and the guarantee of respect for religious freedom in a pluralistic and democratic State of law.

9:00 - 1st Conference: "The Religious Phenomenon as an Expression of Human Dignity"

Prof. Massimo Introvigne, Sociologist and Representative of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to combat racism, xenophobia, intolerance and religious discrimination.

9:45 - 1st Panel: "Private Consciences and Public Reasons"
Chair of the Board: Cons. Paulo Tamburini
Panelists:
Prof. Kent Greenawalt, Columbia Law School Professor and author of works Religious Convictions and Political Choice (1988), Private Conscience and Public Reasons (1995) and Does God Belong in Public Schools? (2005).
Prof. Daniel Sarmento, Republic’s Attorney and Professor of Constitutional Law at UERJ.
